Hi - Thanks for the offer.
Mostly, I am looking for an 1834 N-6 (Lg8, Lg*, Lg ltrs), possibly an 1834 N-5 (if not too expensive), and a decent 1839/36 N-1 (also if not too expensive).
Also, always on the lookout for a decent 1823 that won't break my budget.
Otherwise, maybe something to upgrade one of my poorer cents by 2 or 3 grades (that's why I'm buying the 1798 to upgrade my AG).
I'll look over your Large Cents and let you know in the next day or so if I see anything I can use.
My other project is a "holed" year set - I'm trying to find each year in a higher-grade cent "cheap" because of a hole. It's kind of interesting - they all have a story to tell - and I can get grades and varieties to study that I otherwise couldn't pay the price for, usually at 20% or less of Redbook value if not holed. Most of these were used as pendants, necklaces, watch fobs and the like, but some are more interesting like the ones used for buttons (2 holes) and the "rafter cents" (square nail hole in the center). I understand it was a custom in some parts of the country to nail a penny to a rafter "for good luck" when a new house was built.
If you have any decent higher-grade holed cents cheap, I might be interested.
Thanks for accepting the $140 for the 1798. I will send a check as soon as I decide if I want to take you up on your free shipping offer.
Best regards, Ernie

Hi -
I see that someone has entered my bid of $140 on this item (EPier admin?). I guess that is OK, since that was my (eventual) intent.
One thing I have learned on eBay is NEVER to bid early unless it is a Buy-It-Now that I want. For some reason, there are lots of folks out there who don't have the confidence (knowledge?) to place the first bid, but who are more than happy to outbid someone else who has placed the first bid. The way to win on eBay is to place my highest bid at the last possible moment. So, I have my reservations about placing an "early" bid on this coin. I guess we'll see what happens.
On eBay, I use a eSnipe.com (highly recommended, by the way), but it is not set up for EPier, so I have to place my bids manually on EPier.
Anyway, thanks for whatever you did to get this thing working.
Feel free to contact me at my regular email address (eehanes@netscape.net). I am having some trouble navigating around the quirky EPier screens, so I'm not entirely sure I will see your messages otherwise. (Actually, it's kind of like eBay was 10 years ago).
Regards,
Ernie

Hi -
Twice I tried to bid $140 on this coin and twice the EPier bid screen failed to work. Both times it was within a few minutes of the auction end (about 2AM local time). Both times the auction was then extended for a few more days.
Maybe there is some website maintenance going on at night? I'm a new ePier user (but I have been on eBay 10 years and have over 1200 feedback there). I just bid and won another EPier auction successfully, so I think I am bidding correctly.
Anyway, I would like to enter a bid of $140 for this coin. I'll try one more time tomorrow. Any suggestions?
Best regards,
Ernie
