1/25/2008 8:24:04 AM Hi Danny. The video captured from the Hong Kong LaserDisc played on an RCA LDR600 LD player into a Matrox RT-2000 capture card on my (then) PC. The resulting AVI files were encoded to MPEG-2 with TMPGEnc, and the assets were authored with Sonic's DVDit! program. The bitrate was encoded as variable, but the average bitrate is approximately 5 Mb/sec. No, unfortunately, the movie doesn't cover the entire bandwidth of 4.4 Gb; it takes up 3.8 Gb, instead, so there is approxiamtely 0.6 Gb of empty space. If you didn't know that it was a LaserDisc transfer, yes, you would believe that it was a really early (1997-1998) official DVD. Thank you for your interest. |

1/25/2008 8:24:00 AM Yes, that's my menu. The Hong Kong LD in reality is a PAL-to-NTSC transcoded transfer, and a bad one at that. To see it for yourself, hit your "pause" button when the movie is playing, and you will see the tell-tale overlapping still fields of PAL-to-NTSC transcoded video. I also transfered the Japanese LD to DVD and it pure NTSC -- and it occupies 4.1 Gb, instead of 3.8 Gb. Those extra 4 minutes of the NTSC transfer plus a slightly longer Easter Egg (I used Confederate Honey instead of Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs) gave my Japanese LD transfer DVD 0.3 Gb more data bandwidth. My HK LD transfer DVD is NOT a VHS capture! The Hong Kong LD is a notoriously crappy/muddy transfer and is not nearly as good and vibrant as the Japanese LD transfer. |
